There have been no named storms so far this year in Florida. Knock on wood (you cannot see me right now, but I am tapping my forehead).
This is good news for most of us. Even the Computer Models used in the Rocky Mountains to predict Hurricanes in Florida (under an arrangement made by the previous administration) and the National Weather Service have downgraded the number of likely Hurricanes and damaging storms for 2009. (Isn't it an oxymoron to label individuals in Colorado as Hurricane Experts? It seems a lot like saying that people who work in Florida are the perfect candidates to predict rockslides in the Rockies.)
The absence of storm damage and the lowered predictions of Catclaims are especially good news for most of us that live here in Florida. See generally Emily Nipps, "It's Quiet Now, But Keep the Canned Goods Handy" (St. Petersburg Times Online, Thursday, August 6, 2009), republished online on August 7, 2009 under a totally different headline..
