... Do Not Lower Healthcare Costs.
Advocates of less Health Insurance Coverage and greater Tort Immunity, claim that both of these policies will cause lower Healthcare costs.
In Texas, both of these measures have been in place long enough to compare them to the results. These measures have been in place for years:
- 26% of people in Texas currently have no Health Insurance, a difference since 2000 which reflects increasing numbers of people with no Health Insurance. In 2000, the percentage of people with no Health Insurance was 22%; and
- Tort Immunity for wrongdoers, marketed by them with the words, "tort reform," was enacted in 2003 in favor of "physicians and hospitals to a total of $750,000" in noneconomic damages.
Here are the results: These measures have not reduced Healthcare costs. See Kevin Sack, "G.O.P. Stands on Health Mask Records As Governors" p. 13, Col. 6 (New York Times Nat'l ed., Sunday, September 4, 2011). It is clear that whoever or whatever these practices may benefit, they are not good for your Health.
