How you answer that question affects other people besides yourself.
Today is the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday, perhaps more popularly known as "Dr. Martin Luther King Day". (His actual birthday is on January 15th.)
Many people have today off from work. Some do not. Whether we have the day off or not, today's remembrance is an opportunity to reflect.
In terms of Dr. King's effect on other people's lives, whether or not much is being done on a national level (and no-one expects much from the Federal Government these days), efforts to positively affect the lives of other people are very much alive on a local level. See, e.g., Martha Holleman, "A Local War On Poverty / Commentary" (Baltimore Sun Online, Thursday, January 16, 2014).
If we are blessed with means to live that are greater than our needs, then measuring our own effects on other people's lives, and in particular measuring whether those effects are positive or not, depends largely on the answer to this question: How much is enough? See Paul Sullivan, "Wealth Matters / Having Enough, But Hungry For More" p. B5, col. 1 (New York Times Nat'l ed., "Personal Business" Section, Saturday, January 18, 2014).
TODAY IS OUR NATIONAL OBSERVANCE OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.'S 85th BIRTHDAY! REMEMBER THE DAY TODAY -- AND REMEMBER OTHER PEOPLE TOO!
