In an article posted here on Monday, April 20, 2015, "Is Fracking an Earthquake for Homeowner's Policy Coverage?," I commented on the Acting Insurance Commissioner's position in Pennsylvania to the effect that it is too hard to prove that fracking causes earthquakes. For that reason, reportedly, the PIA (Pennsylvania Insurance Acting) Commissioner refused to approve a Homeowner's Policy Endorsement adding fracking to other excluded causes of earthquake damage.
This position is, to put it charitably, ridiculous. I wrote on Monday: "Tell it to Oklahoma." Today it is reported that the Oklahoma Geological Survey, a branch of the Oklahoma Government, "introduced a website" on which it pronounced that "it 'considers it very likely' that [fracking] wells are causing the majority of the state's earthquakes." Michael Wines, "Oklahoma Recognizes Role of Drilling in Quakes," p. A16, col. 1 (Wed., April 22, 2015).
Tell that to the Acting Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner.
