The Reverend William Barber II recently wrote to the effect that Republicans are using the power of a filibuster threat to "silence any real debate" about proposed legislation.
I have a lot of respect for Rev. Barber, but I would put it differently. What he wrote is true, but the Democrats are afraid to vote. That's why there have been no votes in the U.S. Senate after the American Rescue Plan. Certainly not any votes on things that are truly meaningful or useful to the United States.
