Right now many working-class Americans are struggling with inflation and rising costs of living. Any cuts to Medicare and Social Security would only threaten the livelihoods of millions, and pull the rug out from underneath all of us who have paid into the programs. Not to mention the risks of a recession and job losses if the House forces the government to default on its debt.
Members of Congress of all parties must keep the people who depend on these vital programs alive, by refusing to "defund" them through the back door by not raising the debt ceiling for these programs which have already been budgeted but cannot be funded without raising the current debt ceiling.
It's really as simple as that.
I urge Representative Cory Mills not only to join the sign-on letter from Representatives Boyle, Kuster, and Jayapal calling for a clean vote to avoid the US defaulting on our debts, and to oppose negotiating any cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and other programs my community relies on. I urge him to vote for the people who cannot live without these programs, including the people who live in the 7th Congressional District of Florida which elected him in the first place.
