... is no longer celebrated by itself. It is a part of Presidents' Day of course, and it has been that way for a long time. But to borrow a phrase from Edna St. Vincent Millay, I am not resigned.
Nor am I resigned to lumping Abraham Lincoln's Birthday into the self-same Presidents' Day where we unload George Washington's Birthday as well – and for that matter, where we unload every single president including the ones that don't deserve to be celebrated.
So here's to Old Abe and to the Father of His Country. Long may their memories and examples live with us – both of them separate and identifiable for their honor, their integrity, and their character.
