Now that Chief Justice Roberts has blown off the fearsome letter that Dick Durbin wrote to him asking the Chief Justice to do something about Associate Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas and their alleged ethical improprieties, I am reprinting my article, WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT JUSTICE ALITO'S BEHAVIOR? PLENTY, ACTUALLY.
Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Will Bunch offers this suggestion, which I will gladly add to the suggestions I wrote in my article. I am always glad to quote Mr. Bunch: "There should be nationally televised Senate hearings and aggressive use by the Senate Judiciary Committee of its subpoena power."
Let's do it, Senator Durbin, let it be so. And if Senator Durbin is not up to the task, let individual Senators and Members of Congress such as Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Representative Jamie Raskin, who have expressed themselves so well on the topic of Justice Alito's and Justice Thomas's continuing refusals to recuse themselves, hold televised regular press conferences and appearances to highlight the things that they are willing to say.
To act until the work is done. Let it be done. Not just by Senators and Members of Congress, but by the rest of us Americans. See the many suggestions for action in WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT JUSTICE ALITO'S BEHAVIOR? PLENTY, ACTUALLY.
