On Saturday before the Convention started on Monday, he was on a stage and was shot. Surrounded by agents, he rose up in front of an American flag and reportedly said, "Fight!" A day after he was shot, he insisted on "unity."
On Monday the first night of their Convention, they understandably recited the Pledge of Allegiance. This was ordinary, it seemed. But they were led in their Pledge by a person who attacked the Capitol on January 6. Four people died as a consequence of that attack.
On the first night, the delegates chanted "fight, fight, fight."
On the first night, the delegates did not chant "unity, unity, unity."
We need more than words. Especially when the words seem to be nothing more than a cover. As the saying goes, walk the walk, don't just talk the talk.
Stop trying to be the only ones allowed to speak violence.
Start trying to join everyone else in America condemning violence and speaking acceptance.
The whole world is watching. We are all waiting to see if your "unity" is fake news again.
