The National Center on Law & Elder Rights emailed this message on the First of March, 2021:
"Older adults and their families strive each day to pay for health care, food, shelter, and other essentials. Various health and economic security programs work together to help older adults meet these basic needs, and benefits provided as part of the Social Security system keep millions of older Americans out of poverty.
Advocates can support older adults by helping them access a broad range of benefits and programs. This Practice Tip will discuss the possibilities and considerations for early retirement beneficiaries who may be able to increase their monthly income and access to health benefits by filing for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI)."

Social Security Disability Insurance is the subject of an entire chapter, "SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY INSURANCE," by Dennis J. Wall, in CATASTROPHE CLAIMS: INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR NATURAL AND MAN-MADE DISASTERS (Thomson Reuters Nov. 2020 edition, 2021 Supplements in process).
